VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) -

The Iowa State University soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season after strong 3-1 win over South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D.

Last game the Cyclones were led to a win with the help of the freshman. Senior leadership took over this time as three seniors hit goals for the Cyclones and Iowa State defeated South Dakota 3-1 on the Coyotes home turf and advanced to 2-0 on the season.

Senior Erin Green started the Cyclones off with a goal in the 12th minute. The goal marked the first of the season for Green.

With the score tied 1-1 in the second half seniors Emily Goldstein and Jennifer Dominguez took over. Goldstein hit a shot in the 53rd minute and just ten minutes later Dominguez, who led the Big 12 in goals per game last season, came through and hit another goal for the Cyclones. The two goals were both firsts this season for the seniors.

Senior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe registered 5 saves during the contest. Last season Jobe tallied 74 saves and has improved her career total to 234, placing her fourth overall in all-time saves in the Cyclone record book.

The Cyclones attempted 12 shots as a team and had seven shots on goal for the game. The Coyotes pelted 15 shots at Maddie Jobe, but good defensive work by the Cyclones allowed only one goal.

The Cyclones return to action Tuesday against Western Illinois at 8p.m. CT for the first home match of the season at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Results will be available on Cyclones.com after the conclusion of the game.
