Mustangs poised for return trip to Rome

Morningside ended last season a win short of the ultimate prize, a national championship.

It's that 30-27 OT loss to Marian, that is fueling the Mustangs this season.

M'side returns nine starters from an offense that ranked fourth nationally, averaging more than 44 points per game.

Defensively, the Mustangs have five back on a unit that gave up an average of 13 points per game, which was tops in the nation.

With all that talent returning, they're poised for another run to Rome.

"It's been in the back of everyone's mind, pretty much." receiver Kyle Schuck said.  "Gives us a little bit more fire and motivation in the offseason to work a little harder."

"They've gotten after it," Head Coach Steve Ryan added.  "It's been physical in practice. They're competing and I'm excited about what's going to happen going forward."

"We're going into week one with just a goal to win every week, in and out," Joel McCabe said.  "And, pretty much just dominate."

The Mustangs still have a week to go before they kick the season off September 7th against Valley City State.
