Siouxland is finally feeling the brutal heat of summer, and August is almost over, meaning students have to sweat it out in school.
Many districts without air conditioning let out early Monday and will continue to do so this week like Bishop Heelan's Holy Cross-St. Michael's Center.
While sometimes these schools do let out early on hot days, early releases only account for the last two hours of the day.
While that can be an inconvenience, there are still several hours where students and staff are trying to learn through the heat waves.
Teachers say that means many will have trouble focusing.
"The staff work together, we're all in the same boat. I know the first day of the question is, 'are we getting out early?' And when we're not, we just pick it up and go through it and say we're building stamina," Mary Mousel, Head Teacher at Holy Cross said.
The teachers say to remedy the heat, they try to take a lot of water breaks, and they don't go outside for recess.
