DENISON, Iowa (KTIV) -

Denison Fire Chief and Fire Marshal, Cory Snowgren says around 8:20 Friday morning, there was a loud explosion and fire at Schau Recycling in Denison.

Snowgren tells News 4 he actually called the fire into dispatch.

He says the fire started in a 30-foot scrap metal pile basically made up of cars.

Snowgren says vapor was collected in a void and accumulation in a voided space ignited. A crane operator turned a car over in the scrap metal bile and it exploded.

He says they got the fire out and nothing was damaged and the business is back open.

One firefighter was injured after he twisted his knee when fighting the fire near the scrap metal pile.

That firefighter was taken to the hospital but has been treated and released.

Schau Recycling is located at 325 Avenue C.

Schau Recycling also has another location in Ida Grove.

KTIV's Kristen Johnson is in Denison covering this story and talked to witnesses who saw the fire and will have sound from them on News 4 at 6.
