Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew says it's time for county supervisors to make a decision on the staffing issues at his jail. After brainstorming ideas to deal with a staffing shortage and jail safety for three months... Drew pushed for a solution again... through two new letters to the board, which he presented Tuesday. Drew is asking the board to add correctional officers, change shift hours, and increase nursing staff. But supervisors say they don't want to be rushed into making a decision and haven't confirmed whether they'll vote on any solution at Tuesday's meeting.
Some looking to change their lives around in Woodbury County are turning to their faith. Three area churches have donated 50 new Bibles to help with the reformation process. Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew says their older Bibles were basically taped together. Drew says faith finds inmates at their darkest hour, they're in jail and the only hope is to get out and change their ways.
Keep the communication center open. That's the message many Union County, South Dakota residents and the sheriff have for county commissioners. The commissioners are considering a budget of 265-thousand dollars for the dispatch center. The sheriff says that's a 100-thousand dollar budget cut and would be impossible to run it for that. He says he would have to cut operations or outsource the call center's services. Commissioners say other counties could run it for that, and so should the sheriff.
