Bishop Heelan improved to 2-0 with a 48-13 win over Sioux City North on Thursday night.
The top ranked team in Class 3A bolted to a huge lead in the first quarter. North fumbled on their first offensive play and the Crusaders scored on 15-yard td pass from Trent Solsma to Connor Niles, which made it 7-0.
Christian Brobst blocked two punts in the first quarter and both led to touchdowns. First, Niles ran it in on a reverse from 20 yards out for a 14-0 lead. Nick Bousquet capped the next drive with a one yard run and it was 21-0 after one quarter.
Tony Tobin ran for over 100 yards and scored to start the second quarter on a 7 yard run to make it 28-0. Solsma threw to Niles for a 15 yard score and a 34-0 lead at the half.
Heelan increased the lead to 48-0 in the third quarter. Joe Kayl capped a nine play, 64 yard drive, with a touchdown run. Senior Phil Jacobson also returned an interception 25 yards for the Crusaders' final score of the game.
North scored a pair of late touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including a scoring pass from Robert Neustrom to Noah Popken.
Bishop Heelan will play their home opener on September 13 against Sioux City West. North will be the visitors when they take on Sioux City East, also on the 13th.
