Wayne State volleyball teams knocks off No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul

Wayne State has wo four straight over Top 25 teams.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KTIV) -
Senior Cori Hobbs matched a career-high with 20 kills while freshman Alyssa Frauendorfer pounded out
14 kills with a .440 attack percentage to lead #20 Wayne State College in a 3-1 win over #1 ranked and six-time defending national champion Concordia-St. PaulSaturday afternoon
at the 2013 Holiday Inn 7 Suites Lake Elmo Volleyball Classic played in St. Paul, Minnesota. Scores of the match were 25-15, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-23.
WSC is now 3-0 on the young season with the host Golden Bears dropping to 2-1.
Wayne State never trailed in the first set recording a 25-15 win, hitting .400 in the set with 15 kills. The
second set saw the ‘Cats force Concordia-St. Paul into eight attack errors while recording another 15 kills to post a 25-22 win. The Golden Bears created 10 Wildcat attack errors in
the third set as Concordia-St. Paul recorded a 25-22 win to trim the Wildcat lead in the match to 2-1. WSC then came back in the fourth set after trailing 9-5 early and WSC closed out
the match with Hobbs' 20th kill to defeat the Golden Bears 25-23 in the fourth set to win the match 3-1.
The Wildcats outhit Concordia-St. Paul .252-.191 and held a 64-48 advantage in kills. WSC
had two more service aces than Concordia-St. Paul (6-4), but was outblocked by the Golden Bears 11-6.
Hobbs led WSC in hitting with her 20 kills along with 15 digs. Frauendorfer contributed
14 kills with just three attack errors in 25 attempts for a sizzling .440 attack percentage. Katie Hughes added 10 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Leisa McClintock handed out 53 set assists while recording 10 digs and
sophomore libero Courtney VanGroningen was credited with 14 digs with
freshman Michaela Mestl adding 10.
Wildcats will close out play at the 2013 Holiday Inn & Suites Lake
Elmo Classic later Saturday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. match against #21
