The Wayne State College volleyball team moved up 12 spots and is ranked eighth in the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Wildcats received a total of 871 points and three first place votes in voting conducted by various Division II head coaches from across the country.
"We set up the schedule to compete at the highest level," said Wayne State head coach Scott Kneifl. "We want to compete with the best teams in the country and that's only going to make us better. We will have some weaknesses exposed but that's a good thing. We think we can come back in the gym, get better and be playing our best volleyball towards the end of the season."
"I think it's what makes us better," said sophomore Leisa McClintock. If we play weak teams, then our level stays at that level. Playing teams that challenge us help us get where we should be."
Wayne State went 4-0 over the weekend defeating previously ranked #9 Indianapolis, #11 Colorado Mines, #1 Concordia-St. Paul, and #21 Wingate University at the 2013 Holiday Inn & Suites Lake Elmo Classic in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Wildcats hit the road again this weekend playing four matches at the CSU Pueblo Tournament in Colorado Friday and Saturday.
