The US Army Corps of Engineers will start slab work on the Gavins Point Dam spillway after Thanksgiving said Operations Manager, Dave Becker near Yankton, South Dakota.

Becker says not as much work will need to be done as last year.

He says the work will concentrate on 100 drains, some are 50-years-old.

The drains equalize the pressure above and below the slab.

Becker says "voids", which is a term the Corps uses for cracks, are not of concern.

He says they might fill one or two this winter.
