Tractor trailer crash causes fertilizer spill

Posted:

Hazmat crews had to handle an accident along I-29 when a tractor-trailer spilled some of the liquid fertilizer it was hauling.

Woodbury County deputies say, around 2:30p.m. Tuesday, the semi was leaving the Port Neal complex, and turning onto the northbound on-ramp of I-29.

Authorities say the driver took the corner too fast, and the rig rolled.

The wreck caused some of the liquid fertilizer to spill and authorities to rush to clean it up.

"Some of the product has spilled into the ditch but it is not caustic or poisonous. It has not gotten into the water ways," said Sgt. Doug Boetger, Woodbury County Sheriff's Department.

The driver of the rig was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle. The ramp remained closed for several hours.
