Over a thousand students turn out to study environmental science

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Many students got a break from the classroom to learn straight from the source.

The subject Friday...environmental science.

Sixth grade students from Sioux City Community Schools and South Sioux City were by the riverfront of the Missouri taking in many different aspects of Siouxland's diverse environment.

They explored different booths involving environmental History, Land and Water.

Whether it was learning about fish, ecosystems, recycling or waste the children enjoyed the hands on, focused experience of the outdoor day.

"We have eight periods a day where we learn multiple topics today we get to learn one subject so we're only focused on that so it's easier to focus on that," said Quintin Greenwell.

Organizers say over 12-hundred sixth graders were at the event.
