MidAmerican Energy warns its customers about a scam

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

MidAmerican Energy Company is warning the public about a telephone scam targeting its Hispanic customers in Iowa.

Investigators say callers pose as utility employees, and tell customers that they are behind on their electric bills-- or need equipment repairs-- and have to make a payment.

Those customers are told to buy a 'Green Dot' pre-paid debit card, and call back with the serial number of the card to avoid having their electricity shut off.

MidAmerican Energy wants its customers to know they should never provide credit card numbers, account information and personal information to an unsolicited phone call.
