Slain officer's funeral set for Tuesday

Funeral arrangements are now set for an Iowa police officer shot and killed in the line of duty.

A visitation for officer Jamie Buenting, of Rockwell City, will be Monday from 4-8 at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home.

The funeral will take place at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday at the South Central Calhoun Middle School gym in Rockwell City.

Buenting was killed during a eight-hour standoff Friday morning.

He and several law enforcement officers were trying to serve a warrant when authorities say a shot was fired from inside the home.

Buenting, who was standing just a few feet from the home, according to court records, was hit in the neck.

Thirty-two-year-old Corey Trott was arrested, and according to a probable cause statement, admitted to firing a high powered rifle at the officer.

Trott was arraigned on a 1st degree murder charge, Saturday.

A fund has been set up to help the Buenting family.

Donations can be made, in their name, to any 1st Community Bank in Rockwell City, Newell, Fonda, or Pomeroy.
