Dick Jungers is resigning after 13 years as the softball coach at Newell-Fonda.
NEWELL, Iowa (KTIV) -
One of the top softball coaches in Siouxland is stepping down. Dick Jungers is resigning after 13 years at Newell-Fonda. He says he wants to be able to see his young children compete in their summer activities.
Jungers had 382 wins and just 124 losses, with 9 conference titles and seven state tournament trips over the last 9 years. He coached in four state title games and won the state championship in 2008.
"My goal for Mustang softball was for it to be one of the elite programs in the state we have accomplished that goal," said Jungers. "I have worked with all of these kids since they would come to my clinics so I have a strong attachment to each and every one of them. Now is the time because we have great leadership on the team and they will accept the challenge as it is and carry Mustang softball to the next level of achievements."
Jungers will continue to coach the girls basketball team and is also the grade school principal.
