Sioux City police investigate west side shooting

A sleepless night for some folks living on Sioux City's west side.

They were jolted awake early Tuesday morning after two bullets tore into their apartment complex.

Police are still investigating who's responsible and a motive.

At least one neighbor says they think it was a random act of violence in a neighborhood with a history of it.

Charlena Greatwalker says she was asleep when she heard shots being fired at 5:00 a.m. along the 900 block of West 6th Street.

One of the bullets ripped into her bedroom wall just below a window, coming to a stop in an adjacent wall.  Another bullet struck just above her window.

Greatwalker, who was scared and shocked, describes what happened next.

"I woke up just abruptly, and immediately dropped to the floor and went into the hallway and I yelled to my mom someone is shooting in the neighborhood, somebody's shooting," she said.

No one was hurt.

Greatwalker says her family gathered in a hallway where her mother phoned 911. Within minutes, police were on scene taking statements and patrolling the neighborhood.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-colored pick up truck with overhead orange lights. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 258-TIPS.
