Walking Moai teams form as part of Sioux City Blue Zones movement

The Blue Zones Project in Sioux City invites everyone to join them in the launch of Walking Moai teams in Sioux City.

Walking Moais are groups of up to ten people that meet at least once a week for ten weeks.

Teams are encouraged to walk throughout the community to points of interest and build friendships while tracking their steps and time together.

People interested in walking are invited to attend one of four kickoff events at different neighborhood sites in Sioux City:

Downtown walkers are invited to a kickoff program Tuesday, October 1 at noon at the Sioux City Public Museum.

Other Walking Moai kickoffs will be Thursday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. at North, East and West Middle Schools.

T-shirts and water bottles will be provided at each event to those who pledge to walk for well-being.

"Walking and socializing is fun, easy and good for your health," says Marcy Peterson, Walking Moai committee co-chair. "We're encouraging people to connect with each other while also gaining the physical health benefits of moving."
