City leaders mark silver anniversary of Convention Center

Sioux City's Convention Center has hosted a presidential candidate debate and countless parties in the 25-years since it first opened its doors.  And city leaders say the building is ready for the next 25-years.

Today, they held a ribbon-cutting to commemorate a quarter-century serving Sioux City.
Though the convention center has a rich history, city leaders say they're looking to the future, not the past.

"We have a new focus now on bringing conventions and conferences business into Sioux City.  We're working very closely with our conventions sales manager here in this facility, as well as meeting more regularly with local hotels here in town to talk about how we can bring visitors here into our community to really get that economic impact up," Erika Newton, Events & Facilities Dept., said.

The convention center opened in 1987.
