The Musketeers play their home opener on Saturday night against Sioux Falls.
SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -
A new era of Musketeer hockey starts Saturday when Sioux City plays their home opener under new head coach and general manager Jay Varady. The Muskies take on Sioux Falls at the Tyson Events Center, still looking for their first win on the young USHL season.
Sioux City has lost their first two games of the season, both on the road, 3-2 and 4-0. That comes after a 2-3 record in the preseason.
The Muskies outshot Fargo by 13 in their first game but were outshot in game two, but ten. Getting shots, and quality shots, will be a priority this weekend.
"We look at scoring chances more than shots on net," said Varady. "Shots on net can be deceiving. It could be a dump in from the red line. What we look at are scoring chances and we were happy with our scoring chances in game one and we were happy with two periods of scoring chances in game two but the third period got away from us in Dubuque. It's something we came back and corrected all week."
"We just don't want to panic yet," said forward Jared Thomas. "It's a new season, a long season with sixty games. We're still getting our systems in and still getting to know each other out there on the ice."
The Musketeers will be on the road Friday in Kearney, Nebraska, to play Tri-City. Saturday night's home opener starts at 7:05.
