Spirit Lake City Hall plans within budget

When it comes to building a new project, it's important to stay on budget. Sometimes you have to make some changes to do that. A project in the Iowa Great Lakes doing just that.

A major plan revision for Spirit Lake's new city hall has brought the project back within budget. City Administrator Mark Stevens says the elimination of a basement under the structure has brought the project back within the $1.54 million construction budget.

He says some of the storage that will be lost will be made up by adding some space to the main floor. Stevens says eliminating the basement also took away the need for an elevator, which is costly.

Now that the project is back within budget, the architect is preparing construction documents, with a bid letting shortly after Thanksgiving. Stevens says construction will get underway in early spring.
