Damage assessment begins in Cherokee County


The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, along with Cherokee County fire and law enforcement officials, are assessing damage following a reported tornado touchdown near Washta, Iowa and Cherokee, Iowa earlier this evening. The continuing rain and darkness are making assessment of the location and extent of the damage difficult. Information on the storm damage and impact will be made available as soon as possible.

Current reported damage includes:

No injuries have been reported. Extensive tree debris and power line damage which is localized from an area west of Washta, Iowa to Quimby, Iowa. Silver Sioux Campground had two travel trailers damaged.
