VAN HORNE (KWWL) -
Three people were taken to the hospital Monday morning after a crash between a school bus and an SUV south of Van Horne.
Benton County deputies were called to the intersection of 21st Avenue and 71st Street about a mile south of Van Horne at around 8:30 a.m.
81-year-old Betty Nolan of rural Van Horne was westbound on 71st Street when she stopped for the stop sign at the intersection of 21st Avenue and waited for a northbound car to go by, according to Sheriff Randy Forsyth.
Nolan then pulled out in front of a southbound school bus, according to police.
The bus driver -- Margaret Wolfe, 59, of Newhall -- swerved to try to avoid the crash, but the two vehicles collided in the intersection, according to the police report.
Nolan's vehicle came to rest in the road while the school bus went into the ditch.
One student, a 16-year-old boy, was on the bus. The boy, Nolan and Wolfe were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Forsyth.
