Iowa's Secretary of Agriculture addresses tornado impact on crops

Tornadoes did damage in all three Siouxland states. Not just to homes and businesses, but cropland, as well.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said he doesn't have an exact number of how many farms were hit. But, depending on how flattened the crops are, they may not be salvageable.

"But, really this time of year, if they're flat, certainly beans, soybeans, if they're over, they're really hard to pick up, you're going to lose quite a few of those. And, corn can be flat, so it can be hard to get under as well," Northey said.

Northey said for those farmers, who face major crop damage, the most important source to contact is their insurance company.
