Sioux City wins economic development award

Sioux City's work with Sabre Industries has been recognized by the International Economic Development Council.

The city won a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award during the IEDC Annual Conference this week.

The award honors the city's commitment to growth.

City leaders said Sabre has done a lot for the city including creating 532 jobs.

They said the award is important because it's recognized worldwide.

"This award, it's the gold award, so it means a great deal coming from this organization. Obviously, it's held in high regard around the world," Economic Development Specialist Anne Westra said.

"Sabre had the ability to relocate and expand their plant anywhere, truly, in the United States. However, they are a Sioux City organization and chose to grow in Sioux City, and we're thankful for that," Interim City Manager Bob Padmore said.

Westra said Sabre Industries is also looking at expanding in Sioux City in the future.
