Top-ranked Bishop Heelan hosts #5 Carroll on Friday in a matchup of Class 3A powers.
Bishop Heelan has been the top ranked football team in Class 3A all season. Since a 27-22 win over Sioux City East in week one, the Crusaders haven't been challenged. That should change on Friday when Heelan hosts number-five Carroll.
The Crusaders have won their last five games by an average of 40 points. Heelan is the top scoring team in 3A -- the fewest points they've scored is 40, and that was in one half against West, and the most they've scored is 62.
Carroll's five game winning streak includes wins over ranked teams from Harlan and Spencer -- handing the Tigers their first loss last week, 42-14.
Heelan is excited for the challenge.
"The past few weeks it was hard to focus on those games," said Heelan senior Christian Brobst. "If we looked ahead the coaches get after us. Now we're really focused on this game. We know it's going to be a big game."
"I think it makes the kids have to concentrate and focus a little bit more," said Heelan head coach Roger Jansen. "In the grand scheme of things, this is a playoff game. If you can't focus and concentrate for a playoff game we're in trouble."
"We always have high expectations, especially here at Heelan," said Heelan senior Tyler Cropley. "Whoever's out there is going to have the expectation to win and win by a lot and often."
Heelan plays their homecoming game against Carroll at 7:30 Friday at Memorial Field.
