Selecting new city manager expected to be months-long process

It's expected to be next spring before the city manager's position is filled in Sioux City. Mayor Bob Scott outlined the process at his weekly news conference Friday.

Scott says applications will be accepted through mid-December or early-January. The city council will then narrow the list to a final three-to-five candidates. Those finalists will be interviewed by city staff, members of the business community and even members of the media. Those groups will then make recommendations to the city council.

"It's a process that we think probably will take place that we would not make an offer until somewhere in the middle of February, first of March with the hope of having that person on board April first," said Mayor Scott.

City Finance Director Bob Padmore has been filling in as interim city manager since Paul Eckert's departure in August. Mayor Scott says Padmore plans to apply for the job full-time and will be considered for it.
