New care center in Orange City opens

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Seniors in Orange City, Iowa have a new place to call home.

The Prairie Ridge Care Center is the newest facility in the Orange City Area Health System network.

The center is licensed for 83 beds. Four cottages will house residents.

The goal of the center is to provide superior care for seniors without disrupting their sense of normalcy, which, as COO Dan McCarty says, is not typical of the nursing home industry.

"They're going to be able to get up in the morning when they want," said McCarty. "They're going to be able to take a shower or bathe when they want. And they're going to be able to eat when they like, just like they did at home. Staff is prepared for that. It's going to take us a while, but that's our goal."

Residents that will live at the new facility will move in on Friday. There's already a waiting list.
