The community in Wayne came together Wednesday, just as they have so many times since the tornado.
This time, it was to say a few prayers and share a meal.
"We wanted to provide an opportunity to go deeper, to provide a spiritual cast for this whole event, to give people to come together with gratitude," said First Presbyterian Church Pastor Ray McCalla.
The prayer service was light-hearted, which you wouldn't expect to see from a community that's gone through as much as Wayne has. But the spirit of this town continues to shine.
"The community's really rallying together, and they're people with big hearts that care about people and care about trying to rebuild their lives," said organizer Diane Gentrup.
And as far as the meal, McCalla says each of the churches in Wayne, regardless of denomination, provided some of the food, making it, like all the clean-up and community activities before it, a team effort.
"Our congregation was the pickle and carrot church," said McCalla. "And then there was the dessert church and the sloppy joe church. So they just kind of pitched in."
With all the events that have taken place in Wayne after the storm, one thing is clear about this community. They'll continue to pray together. They'll continue to eat together. And they'll continue to bond together.
