IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A North Liberty man has pleaded guilty to a 2011 crash that killed a Clear Creek-Amana student.

Zachary Swenka, 20, was scheduled to plead guilty in Johnson County District Court to involuntary manslaughter for the October 2011 crash that killed 14-year-old Mackenzie Lown.

During that hearing, Swenka, who was accused of driving more than 100 m.p.h. when the crash happened, told the judge that he last remembered doing only 60 m.p.h.

The judge then called a conference with the attorneys, then refused to accept the plea and dismissed court.

After a recess, the judge then called the court back in session and accepted the guilty plea.

Swenka was then sentenced to up to two years in prison. He must also pay restitution to Lown's family, that amount will be decided at a later date.

KWWL's Michelle Corless talked with Lown's family after the hearing and will share their reaction tonight on the KWWL News at 5 and 6.
