Iowa State quarterback Sam Richardson has thrown 10 touchdown passes this season with five interceptions.
After a 1-5 start, including a 64-point loss to Baylor last week, all jobs are open at Iowa State. But Coach coach Paul Rhoads says sophomore quarterback Sam Richardson will start this week's game against No. 19 Oklahoma State.
The Cyclones initially listed Richardson and freshman Grant Rohach ROW-hauch as co-starters but Rhoads says Richardson's knowledge of Iowa State's offense was a key factor in getting another start.
Rhoads adds that Richardson needs to make smarter decisions and quicker judgments. Richardson, has thrown for over 1,255 yards and 10 touchdowns but Iowa State's offense ranks 101st in the nation.
"It's not just been the Baylor week, it's been the two back to back weeks that we've been overall very unproductive and at sometimes inept at what we've got done on the offensive side of the ball," said Rhoads. "We've gone nineteen series without a first down in the last two weeks. That's awful offensive football."
Iowa State is a 13-point underdog to the Cowboys. Game time in Ames is 11:00 am Saturday on Fox Sports Net.
