Residents raise concerns about Hoover Elementary construction

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Monday, the Sioux City Community school board voted and passed a 130-thousand dollar proposal that would add a second exit to the planned Hoover campus elementary school.

This is due in part because of those in the country club neighborhood raising concerns about the construction project.

Nearby residents are worried that the new school will cause a significant increase in traffic incidents involving students.

But school board members are reassuring the public that the children come first.

"I believe in safety and I believe that we've met that challenge since 1998 since we've been constructing new schools," said Mel McKern, Operations and Maintenance Director.

The school board will be meeting two more times in November to hear comments and concerns from the community involving the new location.
