There's been an arrest in connection with the shooting death of a Sioux City man, but police say the killer is still on the loose. Twenty-two-year-old Ricardo Jaime Vital has been charged with being an accessory to the crime in the shooting death of 20-year-old Adrian Rojas Hernandez. Police say Hernandez was shot in the home at 1420 West 15th Street on Sunday. Vital told police that 20-year-old Martin Castellanos shot Rodriguez then dumped his body in a ditch along Interstate 29 near Canton, South Dakota and set it on fire. Authorities say the three men were acquaintances, but it's not clear what led to the killing.
A northeast Nebraska man is convicted of first degree murder in the slayings of his ex-girlfriend and her new husband last December. On Monday, an Antelope County jury found 33-year-old Matthew Hinrichsen of Ewing guilty of two counts of murder and two weapons charges in the deaths of Victoria Lee and Alex Vargas. They had been shot and their trailer set on fire with them inside. Hinrichsen could be sentenced to two life prison terms. Sentencing is set for January 28th.
The Sioux City school board has eased the worries of concerned country club area residents about a construction project. The board approved a $130,000 proposal that would add a second exit to the planned Hoover campus elementary school. Residents are worried that the new school will cause more accidents involving kids. The school board will be meeting two more times in November to hear comments and concerns.
