STORM LAKE, Iowa -
Buena Vista freshman punter/place kicker Tyler Stolen was recognized by the Iowa Conference on Tuesday morning by being named the league's Special Teams Performer of the Week.
Stolen, who's the first Beaver to be recognized this season, accounted for 10 of Buena Vista's 34 points during the team's 34-0 shutout victory over Loras College on Saturday afternoon in Storm Lake. He went 2-for-2 in field goal attempts, including a 44-yard kick which was the second-longest of his young collegiate career. He was perfect on all four of his PAT's and remains perfect (14-for-14) on the year. He also averaged better than 60 yards on seven kickoffs.
Punting the ball, he averaged 46.2 yards on four punts and is leading the IIAC with a 43.7 yards per punt average during conference play.
He's now 7-for-12 in field goal attempts overall, including a career-long of 46 yards set earlier this season against Concordia-Moorhead. His seven made field goals are the most in a single season for the Beavers since 2009 when Zach Kaufman went 8-for-11.
With the win, Buena Vista is now 1-6 overall (1-3 IIAC) and will be back on the road this Saturday for an Iowa Conference match-up at Luther College (2-5, 1-3 IIAC). Kick-off in Decorah is set for 1:00pm.
