West Middle School students learn a lesson about drug and alcohol abuse

Some Sioux City middle school students got the chance to hear from a man who wants to spread a powerful message against drug and alcohol abuse.

Milton Creagh spoke at West Middle School Wednesday afternoon.

He said his goal is to get kids to take alcohol and drug abuse seriously.

He grew up in a rough Chicago neighborhood and said he watched too many friends suffer at the hands of these substances.

Creagh makes these issues relatable to students.

"Sometimes we, as adults, put it in such soft terms with the kids that they think that what we are saying is a bunch of mess and they don't pay us any attention. So, I talk to them about ways that they can see it in their families, they see where it's happening in their families. I put it to them in a way that they get it," Creagh said.

Creagh will speak at several Sioux City schools for "Red Ribbon Week."
