Engineer: Hamilton Boulevard will reopen next week

There's yet another delay in the reopening of a busy Sioux City street.

Work started June 3rd to replace a bridge between 36th Street and West Clifton Avenue on Hamilton Boulevard. Work was slated to be done sometime this month. But, recent rains stopped work on the $700,000.

Crews couldn't complete the work. So, to fully reopen the road, workers need until next week. "We will probably hold off and have it be a full opening when the approaches are set up. A partial opening would take a lot of work to get traffic control justified there and safety while they work on the barrier rails. So at this point, I think we will hold off an do a full opening," Brittany Anderson, a Sioux City Civil Engineer said.

The contract says for every day the road is closed after October 25th, the city can impose a one-thousand dollar per-day fine.

The city has the choice whether to impose the fine. But, if any of the days after the October 25th deadline were delayed by the weather, the company won't be charged. "We have to finish up those approaches, get them open. They have the side walk barrier railing to get installed there. And painting the lines," Anderson said.

For now, Hamilton Boulevard is set to reopen sometime next week, weather permitting.
