Morningside College continues to hold down the No. 1 spot in the national rankings in the latest NAIA Football Coaches Poll.
The Mustangs, who have been ranked No. 1 in all eight regular season polls as well as the pre-season poll, raised their record to 8-0 with a 48-31 victory against No. 25 Concordia University last Saturday in Seward, Neb. The Mustangs trailed 24-21 at the intermission before they outscored the Bulldogs 27-7 in the second half to remain one of four undefeated teams left in the NAIA ranks.
The 17-point win at Concordia was the Mustangs' smallest margin of victory so far this season for a Morningside team that has crushed its opposition by an average margin of 39.5 points per game. The Mustangs are the highest scoring team in the nation with an average of 54.5 points per game and are third in the nation in scoring defense with an average of 15.0 points per game.
Morningside is one of two teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) ranked in this week's NAIA Top 25. The other is No. 19 Northwestern College, who the Mustangs will face this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Orange City, Iowa.
