Tuesday is election day in Siouxland and across the country. In Sioux City, voters will decide between six candidates to fill three open seats on the city council. They'll choose between Doug Batcheller, Jim France, Pete Groetken, Dan Moore, Keith Radig, and Maria Rundquist.
A man charged in the beating death of a Spencer, Iowa man is pleading guilty to lesser charges. Twenty-one-year-old Cody Millard was originally charged with first degree murder in the death of 59-year-old Edward Kitto in August of last year, but a witness now says he lied about Millard being involved in Kitto's death. In a deal with prosecutors, Millard is pleading guilty to a Class-D drug felony and an aggravated misdemeanor.
A Sioux City business that wants to build a 45,000 square foot facility in the former stockyards area is a step closer to making it happen. Monday night, the city council approved Echo Electric's application to the Targeted Jobs Withholding Tax Program. Echo employs 22 people and now plans to add 13 more jobs. If the application is approved by the state, the company will receive half a million dollars in tax benefits.
Educators, parents and students from across Iowa attend the second Governor's Bullying Prevention Summit. Among those who made the trip to Des Moines Monday was Kayla Weishuhn of Primghar, Iowa. She's been an advocate for bullying prevention after her 14-year-old brother Kenneth committed suicide when he was bullied after revealing that he was gay. Sioux City Schools Superintendent Paul Gausman also attended the summit.
