ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -

Authorities have dropped charges against an Orange City, Iowa daycare provider after the death of a toddler.

But, the Department of Public Safety, Mitch Mortvedt said more serious charges are being considered.

33-year-old Rochelle Sapp was charged with willful injury and child endangerment.

On October 29, authorities say 3-year-old Autumn Elgersma was injured at this home at 706 10th Street Southeast in Orange City.

Court documents said Sapp called the girl's mother and told her the child had fallen down the stairs.

But, after, investigating the child's injuries Sapp was re-interviewed about what happened.

That's when, court documents show, Sapp admitted to throwing the child to the floor after the girl refused to take off her coat.

The girl died two days later at a Sioux Falls hospital.

Authorities said final decisions on charges will be made after the autopsy and lab tests are complete.

They said it could be up to four weeks before autopsy results are finished.
