The Sioux City Explorers 2014 schedule is set and will feature 11 different opponents coming to Lewis & Clark Park for the 2014 season, which will mark the team's 22nd season in Siouxland. The X's will begin their quest for an American Association championship on the road versus the Sioux Falls Canaries in a split series starting on May 15, 2014. The Explorers will play two games in Sioux Falls before heading back to Sioux City for their home opener on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 7:05 PM versus the Canaries with the opening series concluding on Sunday, May 18th in Sioux Falls.
The American Association will operate in 2014 with a total of 12 teams in three divisions, with inter-league play against the Can-Am Independent Baseball League. Sioux City will remain a member of the American Association's Central Division, along with the Gary-Southshore Railcats, Lincoln Saltdogs, and Kansas City T-Bones. The North Division will be comprised of the Winnipeg Goldeyes, Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, St. Paul Saints and Sioux Falls Canaries, while the South Division is made up of the Amarillo Sox, Grand Prairie Airhogs, Laredo Lemurs and its newest division member, the Wichita Wingnuts (formerly a member of the Central Division).
There will be 50 home games played at Lewis & Clark Park with an equal number of games to be played on the road and four teams will qualify for the playoffs – the three division winners and one wild card. The wild card will be determined by the team with the best winning percentage that does not win their respective division. Both playoff rounds will be a best of five series. The Sioux City Explorers will release their 2014 game times and promotion schedule at a later date.
