A solicitation letter sent to homeowners has many wondering if they are being scammed. Some folks in Siouxland are receiving letters in the mail from a company called HomeServe USA.
This company sells insurance for waterlines. It is not affiliated with the city of Sioux City and the city does not endorse the services that this company provides.
City officials say it's solely a voluntary service, if you wish to have it.
"Over the last couple of years we have been in contact with the company. More recently we found out that some other communities in Iowa are actually using this service," said Jade Dundas, Public Works Director.
Dundas said the city is considering looking into using the service, but have not made any decision yet.
HomeServe USA has been investigated by the Better Business Bureau out of Lincoln, Nebraska and they say it is legitimate company.
