HORNICK, Iowa (KTIV) -

When fire ripped through their home in early October, the Benson family lost all of their belongings.  However, they didn't lose their faith in their friends nor their community.

Dave, his wife, Krista, and their son, Andrew, were able to escape, and are now starting over.

A steak dinner and auction was held Saturday night in the Hornick Town Hall to help the family get back on their feet.

Dave is a Deputy with the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, and Krista, is a teacher in the Sioux City school district.

Surrounded by good food and great friends, the Benson family expresses their gratitude for their community.

"It's kind of overwhelming you know we always talk about how nice it is to live in a small town

"It's kind of overwhelming you know we always talk about how nice it is to live in a small town, and here's a prime example why all these people are here because they care," said Dave Benson.

Donations are also being accepted at any Iowa/Nebraska State Bank branch.
