Morningside is makings it's 10th straight appearance in the NAIA playoffs.
It took a while, but 5th ranked Morningside outscored Doane 38-nothing in the second half to win their third straight GPAC title 51-13, securing the team's 10th consecutive appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series.
Derrick Dison filled in nicely for the suspended Ryan Kasdorf throwing for 219 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.
Joel McCabe had 124 receving yards and a touchdown, while fellow receiver Kyle Schuck had 80 yards and scored three times.
After a loss last week to Northwestern, Saturday win gives the team some added momentum heading into the postseason.
The Mustangs are ranked 5th in the final NAIA poll of the season and will host 10th ranked Rocky Mountain College of Montana in the first round of the FCS on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Olsen Stadium.
Morningside advanced to the National Championship game in Rome, Georgia, last year.
"Last week was a pretty tough loss, obviously (to Northwestern) and we knew we could bounce back. We knew it just wasn't our game and we didn't play Mustang football. We came back this week, we were a little slow to start out with, but came around in the second half and played our game," senior Kyle Schuck said. "We're just going to keep playing a game at a time and hopefully end up where we were last year."
"The front end of our schedule was pretty easy," Head Coach Steve Ryan said. "The last three games have been a real battle for our guys. So, we learned a lot later in the season than you normally learn early on."
Northwestern (8-2) is also back in the postseason for the second straight year.
The 12th ranked Red Raiders will travel to No.7 Missouri Valley in the first round.
Last year, both NWC and Missouri Valley lost to the eventual national champions from Marian in the playoffs.
