Jacobs becomes 7th republican from Iowa in U.S. Senate race

A seventh republican candidate has entered the race for Tom Harkin's seat in the U.S. Senate.

Mark Jacobs, former CEO of Texas base Reliant Energy, announced his candidacy on Tuesday and met with Siouxlanders at Jetsun Aviation to discuss his platform and future plans.

Jacobs touched on five key issues he would like to address if elected to Iowa's open seat in the U.S. Senate.

His said his priority is education.

"K-12 education is really a state and local issue, and I think when it comes to K-12 education, we don't need Washington calling the shots in terms of our curriculum," said Jacobs.

In the next five days, the Des Moines, Iowa native will visit 22 other cities in Iowa.

The winner of the republican primary will likely face Rep. Bruce Braley in the general election.
