Wayne, NE city council approves funds to help businesses rebuild after tornado

Wayne, Nebraska, city leaders are taking steps to recover from October EF-4 tornado that did major damage to the city's industrial park.

During a city council meeting, Tuesday night, the agenda included two-items to extend a total of $80,000 worth of LB-840 economic development loans in the ongoing efforts to rebuild.

Wayne Mayor Ken Chamberlain said that the council unanimously approved a loan of $50,000 for a business owner to purchase property, and rebuild the a building destroyed by the tornado. "We had a property owner that was struggling to decide whether or not they were going to rebuild the property," Chamberlain said. "We had another developer come forward and make an offer, so we're trying to assist him in getting that property purchased and rebuilt."

The council also approved a grant of $30,000 using LB-840 funding to replace a total of four "Welcome to Wayne" signs damaged by the storms.
