Ospreys get a new home

SALIX, Iowa (KTIV) - After nearly five years nesting in a nearby cell tower, a few birds get a new home.

Brown's Lake in Salix, Iowa gained two nesting towers for Ospreys.

REC power company donated the poles and their time to help with the installation.

Officials hope that these new towers will deter the Ospreys from nesting in a nearby cell tower which can interrupt cell service to customers.

"This will allow them forging opportunities here at Brown's Lake and will not hamper the work of the cell phone tower," Pat Schlarbaum, Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The project was also made possible by volunteers around the state, Department of Natural Resources, and Woodbury County Conservation.
