Jaimes-Martinez GUILTY of voluntary manslaughter

"We the jury find the defendant on count one of the trial information guilty of voluntary manslaughter," Hon. Jeffrey Poulson, Woodbury County Judge said.

Fernando Jaimes-Martinez faced several charges including first-degree murder, but is found guilty of a lesser charge in the death of a Sioux City woman.

The jury deliberated for about four hours Monday and just an hour and a half on Tuesday before the verdict came down at 11 o'clock Tuesday..

Martinez was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and intimidation with a dangerous weapon with an intent to harm.

Because he was found guilty of a lesser charge than first degree murder, Martinez's charges only carry a maximum total of 45 years according to his defense attorney, Mike Williams.

The trial ended up lasting a total of two weeks including jury selection.

Previously, Martinez pleaded guilty to a charge of a felon in possession of a firearm.

His sentencing on all charges is set for December 27, but the defense asked for an earlier date for sentencing.
