UPDATE:

Woodbury County dispatchers say both southbound lanes of Interstate 29 have now reopened near Sergeant Bluff.

Crews have been working since shortly after 2:00pm Tuesday afternoon to reopen the lanes following an accident involving a gas company truck carrying vessels full of various gases.

Previous script:

Woodbury County Emergency Manager Gary Brown says the inside lane on Interstate 29 has now reopened near Sergeant Bluff.

He says crews will be working in the area for the several hours.

Brown urges drivers to use caution.

They expect both lanes to be reopened Tuesday evening.

Previous script:

Bluff Fire Chief Anthony Gaul said Tuesday afternoon, a delivery truck from a gas company went into the ditch near Sergeant Bluff, Iowa on Interstate 29 and ended upside down.

Gaul said they don't know how the accident happened, but say the delivery truck had pressurized tanks that raised concern with responders.

He said Sioux City Fire and Rescue's Hazmat team were called in to help because they were worried the tanks could turn into "rockets or missiles" and start shooting off.

Gaul also said that Harbor Drive was closed for a half hour around 4:45 p.m.

Right now, officials hope to have I-29 reopened at 6 p.m.

Gaul said the driver of the delivery truck was treated at the scene and refused hospital transportation.

Woodbury County Sheriff's Deputies said they were working to turn the delivery truck back over and that's why they are keeping the southbound lanes of I-29 closed.

Check 511 before you head out.
