South Sioux City, NE leaders hear pitches from three electricity providers

It takes a lot of electricity to power a city.

South Sioux City, Nebraska, receives some of its power from the dams on the Missouri River. But, most comes from Nebraska Public Power District.

However, three companies are vying for the right to supply power to the Cardinal City, and presented proposals to the city council Monday afternoon. NPPD, along with Southwest Renewable based in Arizona, and Big Rivers of Kentucky, are in the running.

Leaders of nearby communities, like Wayne, also listened to the power pitch.

South Sioux's City Administrator Lance Hedquist says the council didn't take action on any of the plans. But, the council will consider making a "statement of intent" at next week's council meeting.
