Ponca, NE holiday display boasts 60,000 lights

As the Christmas holiday draws closer, folks around Siouxland are decking the halls. One Ponca, Nebraska, couple is spreading Christmas cheer with an incredible display.

Over 100 animations, dozens of inflatables and 60,000 lights. That's what can be seen at the Watchorn household on 882nd Road near Ponca.

The display is run by Gene Watchorn and Julie McDowell. The couple holds open houses every each weekend in December leading up to Christmas. "It's just to see the enjoyment of the kids, and of the older people," said decorator Gene Watchorn. "It gives them something to do over the season, and they bring their families out. Just a good time." "It is quite the experience for an hour," added decorator Julie McDowell. "I think they really enjoy it, and it's all worth that."

Fourth-graders from Ponca school were at the home today to see the decorations up close and personal. The children enjoyed their stay and had fun seeing the Christmas wonderland. "Freedom and fresh air," said Sam Taylor. "I just can't wait until Christmas, so I think this is kind of fun to get out of school and do something Christmas-themed," said Eli Persinger. "We got to see all that stuff," added Matt Logue. "It was cool."

The couple encourages anyone who wants to to come see the display. It will run from 6:00pm to 9:00pm each Friday, Saturday and Sunday before the Christmas holiday.
