"Mother Nature" leads officer to suspected burglar

Estherville, Iowa, police had help from "Mother Nature" in tracking down a suspect in several car burglaries.

Early Wednesday morning, a resident told police that someone had broke into his car, overnight, and stolen his wallet.

The man's next door neighbor reported someone was hiding in his garage. When police searched the garage, they found footprints in the snow, which led them to the home of 30-year-old Jeremy VanTrump.

Police say they found the items they believed had been stolen lying in the yard.

VanTrump then came home with items, police say, were stolen from the local Hy-Vee store.

Van Trump faces a handful of charges, including two counts of 3rd-Degree Burglary.
