West Middle School raises money to help feed Siouxland

Students at West Middle School have made a generous donation to the Food Bank of Siouxland.

The Student Council raised more than $1,500 with a "Nickel and Change" Drive. A competition between homerooms got the ball rolling, and coins started pouring in.

The winning sixth, seventh and eighth grade homerooms raised more than $100 each. And in return, they got a pizza party. But, students said they didn't do it just for the pizza. They wanted to help feed Siouxland.

"We really came together as a school and it helps us realize that there are people that are less fortunate than us," said 8th grader Riley Ford. "And it really helps us give back to our community."

After presenting their check to the Food Bank, the Student Council then surprised a school secretary with thank you gifts for lugging all the coins to the bank.
